Blaming global economic conditions, India’s Jet Airways is suspending its Brussels-New York (JFK)-Brussels flight effective 10th September 2012.

Describing the suspension as ‘temporary,’ Jet Airways said it intends to redeploy its assets to focus on profitability.

The airline promised affected travelers that they would be offered alternative flights on its own services to Newark Liberty International Airport or that of partner airlines from 10th September.

Jet said daily services on its Mumbai-Brussels-Newark and Delhi-Brussels-Toronto routes would remain unaffected.

Sonny Chatrath, president of Edison, NJ-based travel agency Air-Savings said Jet Airways’ load factor (passenger traffic) on the JFK flights was dismal.

Air India’s Newark Woes

Even as Jet Airways is suspending flights to JFK, rival airline Air India continues to have problems with flights to the other New York area airport – Newark, NJ.

Mr.Chatrath said Air India had informed travel agents in New Jersey on Friday, June 15 that it would not be operating its Mumbai-Newark-Mumbai flights until July 31.

Air India, however, continues to operate flights to New York JFK.

A section of Air India pilots have been on strike since late April.

The airline’s pilots’ union called the strike to protest a move to train pilots from the erstwhile Indian Airlines on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that’s shortly to be inducted into Air India.
